The Legend of Ramayana by Spectaculaires
Inspired by the Asian Civilisations Museum’s collection of Nakashi Venkataramaiah paintings, the show takes the audience on a journey of the Sanskrit epic poem The Ramayana. The epic follows Prince Rama’s quest to rescue his beloved wife Sita from the demon King Ravana, through the eyes of a venerable Banyan tree.
As the epic circulated through oral public performances across the Indian subcontinent, the Ramayana story became popular throughout Asia and was translated into different languages. Today, many versions of the story exist in India and Southeast Asia, reflecting the culture’s specific values, beliefs and connections to their region.
Look out for a complementary performance to this Night Light on 29 – 31 August!
